St John's News - 26 October 2026

Dear friends,

"We have been unfaithful to our God ...
but in spite of this there is still hope for Israel."
Ezra 10:2

The verse above is a lovely reminder that even when we have got things wrong, God is not finished with us. There is still hope, because God is gracious and his purposes are not defeated by our failures.

If you were unable to join us for Sunday's service, when we rounded off our series on Ezra, please catch up on the St John's YouTube channel.

The main service next Sunday at 10:30am is our monthly Family Service, when we will be looking at Nehemiah. There will also be a short service of Holy Communion at 9:00am.

Family Light Trail

This Friday at 4:00pm, there will be a Family Light Trail at church. We’ll have a variety of light-themed crafts to help us think about Jesus as the Light of the world and how we can all shine for him. Families will also be able to explore the church building in a different way by following our light trail. We’ll then enjoy some fun, Bible teaching and music together, before finishing with hot dogs and refreshments. We hope you can join us!

Time to Remember

On Saturday 7 November at 3:00pm, we are holding a special event called A Time To Remember & A Time To Give Thanks at St John’s. This short service provides an opportunity to remember loved ones who have died and to give thanks for their lives. It will include readings, hymns, the reading out of the names of those we are remembering, and the lighting of candles. The service will be followed by refreshments. All those who have experienced bereavement are warmly invited to attend.

A Time to Remember and a Time to Give Thanks

Sunday 8 November is Remembrance Sunday. There will be a short service of Holy Communion at 9:00am. The Remembrance Sunday Service with uniformed organisations then takes place at 10:30am. We will observe two minutes’ silence at around 11:00am, followed by the laying of wreaths. This service is for all ages, and there will be no Sunday School that morning. Sunday School will resume on Sunday 15 November.

There will also be a short Act of Remembrance at St John's on Wednesday 11 November at 10:50am. Poppies and a donation box are available at the back of church.

The online weekly prayer meeting is on Zoom on Saturday at 9:00am for 40 minutes. To join, click here, or load Zoom and use Meeting ID: 685 295 1296 and Password: 816262.

In Christ,

Peter
