St John's News - 4 February 2025

Dear friends,

"The Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost."
Luke 19:10

We begin this week with an important safety notice: Please be careful entering the church building – there is scaffolding just inside the main door, as well as round the outside of the church.

Next Sunday's service includes the Lord’s Supper and the main reading is Mark 9:1-13 (The Transfiguration). The Sunday School will be looking at Jesus’ parable of the 2 houses – one built on solid rock and the other on sand.

The next Men's Breakfast will take place on Saturday 15 February at 8:30am in the Church Room. Please sign up at the back of church or email elmswellrector@gmail.com.

There is also a Ladies Brunch planned for Saturday 8 March at 10:00am. Catherine Joughin will be speaking. Please sign up at the back of church or email legoodridge@gmail.com.

If you missed Sunday’s Christingle service, you can find it on our YouTube channel.

On Sunday 23 March at 3:15pm there is a fundraising event for Mercy Ships with poems, stories, and “retro-praise” with the church band. Refreshments provided. Entry is free, but donations to the work of Mercy Ships will be appreciated. Mercy Ships deploys hospital ships to some of the poorest countries in the world, delivering vital, free healthcare to people in desperate need – find out more here.

You are very welcome to join the online weekly church prayer meeting, which is on Zoom on Saturday at 9:00am for 40 minutes. You do not need to pray out loud – we’d love to see you. Join us by clicking here or, load Zoom and use Meeting ID: 685 295 1296 and Password: 816262.

The Salvation Army are holding a youth drop-in during the February half term on Wednesday the 19th at the Elmswell Baptist Church. This runs from 11am to 2pm and for the age range of 11- to 18-year-olds.

In Christ,

Peter
