St John's News - 30 May

Dear friends,

"As water is restless until it reaches its level,
so the soul has not peace until it rests in God."
from With and Without Christ
by Sadhu Sundar Singh

It was lovely to restart Men's Breakfasts at St John's last Saturday. Having enjoyed a hearty breakfast, we heard about the life of a man from India, who had a vision of Christ in his bedroom and subsequently spent his life walking barefoot as a holy man across India and Tibet, but one who preached Christ instead of Sikh or Hindu teaching. We are planning the next Men's Breakfast for Saturday 6 July.

If you missed Sunday's Service and the sermon on Mark 7:1-23, you can catch up on our YouTube channel.

There are 2 services this coming Sunday. There is a shorter service of Holy Communion at 9:00am (with no hymns). At 10:30am, our main service is the all age family service, when we will be hearing all about Gideon.

9 May Ascension Day - Lavenham
For Ascension Thursday this year, we have been invited to Lavenham for a service at 10:00am. Energetic early birds may wish to arrive at 8:00am to climb the 192 steps up the tower for a short time of praise before descending for a breakfast at 8:30am. After the 10:00am service, there is also the opportunity to stay behind for a talk on Lavenham Airfield and there will also be a tour of Lavenham afterwards. Please email Peter if you wish to come for any part of the morning

12 May Bring & Share lunch & Mission Sunday
The following Sunday, 12 May, is Mission Sunday. Some friends from OMF will be returning to St John’s. We will hear about their plans to head off to the East Asia as missionaries. There will a Bring & Share lunch afterwards. If you can come for the lunch, please let us know what you will be bringing on the sign-up sheet at the back of church.

19 May Afternoon tea & Pentecost "Songs of Praise" service
On Sunday 19 May, there will be a Songs of Praise service at 5:30pm. This will be preceded by an afternoon tea in the church room at 4:45pm. If you wish to come and/or contribute to the tea, please sign up at the back of church.
