St John's News - 5 December 2023

Dear friends,

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
Hebrews 13:8

Following the sad death of Lesley Clarke last month, we are arranging a special memorial service in her memory. This will take place on Tuesday 9 January at 10:30am and all are welcome.

If you missed Sunday’s Christingle and baptisms, remember you can access our services online on our YouTube channel

The service this coming Sunday, 10 December includes a celebration of the Lord's Supper and the main reading is Luke 1:5-25. Sunday School will be meeting in the rooms at the back of church as usual.

Our atmospheric Carols by Candlelight service will be at 6:30pm on 17 December. Tom Hart will be speaking and mulled wine and mince pies will be served afterwards. Carols by Candlelight is a brilliant opportunity to invite friends and neighbours to hear the good news of Jesus. Please think and pray about who you could invite.

At the front of church, to the right of the staged area, there are 2 Christmas cards and a collection basket for Tearfund. Rather than sending each other cards this Christmas, please think about signing a greeting to all your friends at St John's in one of the 2 cards on the table and donating the money saved to Tearfund.

On Monday 11 December, years 5 and 6 from the primary school are coming to St John's for Discover Advent, a creative and reflective telling of the Christmas story. Please pray for the children to enjoy the experience and to be drawn closer to the God who created them and loves them.

The weekly church prayer meeting is on Zoom on Saturday at 9:00am for 40 minutes. You are welcome to join us by clicking here or, load Zoom and use Meeting ID: 685 295 1296 and Password: 816262.

In Christ

Peter
