St John's News - 12 September 2023

Dear friends,

We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God.
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us,
so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
2 Corinthians 5:20b-21

Services
If you missed Sunday's Back to Church service and God’s desire to be reconciled with us, the people he created, you can watch it on YouTube. Next week is Tearfund Sunday and we will be welcoming guest speaker Val Dufour to the service at 10:30am. Tearfund is a Christian charity which partners with churches in the world’s poorest countries to tackle poverty and injustice.

Harvest Bring & Share Lunch
Harvest Festival takes place on 1 October and it will be followed with a Bring and Share lunch. This will be a lovely occasion, when we can enjoy an extended time of fellowship with each other. Please sign up at the back of church.

Giving to St John's
St John's is switching to the Parish Giving Scheme over the next few weeks - more information about this will be coming soon. PGS will make the administration of our giving more efficient and it is an opportunity to review our financial support of St John's or to start regular giving. It would be really helpful if you could take time to read this explanatory letter and to support the scheme.

Pam Green's funeral
Pam Green was a lovely, long-standing member of St John's, who sadly passed away last week. Our prayers are with Terry and the family. Richard Webb, who was her home group leader, will be taking her funeral at the St Edmunds chapel, West Suffolk Crematorium on 22 September 11.00am.

World Mission Conference: Ethical Consumerism
Also check out this poster about a morning conference in Stowmarket on 7 October about how we can make a difference to the poorest in the world by the way we shop and invest our money.

Suffolk Historic Churches Trust
Thank you to all who sponsored my bike ride last Saturday. The amount raised is £287 (before gift aid) and will go to the Suffolk Historic Churches Trust. Half this amount will then be returned to us for the fabric of the church.

Prayer Meeting on Saturday
The weekly church prayer meeting is on Zoom on Saturday at 9:00am for 40 minutes. You are welcome to join us by clicking here or, load Zoom and use Meeting ID: 685 295 1296 and Password: 816262.
