St John's News - 14 August 2023

Dear friends,

The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.
Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.
Luke10:2

Services
If you were unable to get to yesterday's service and the talk on our seventh Woman of Faith, the missionary Gladys Aylward, you can watch it on our YouTube channel.

At next Sunday's service at 10:30am Gavin Payne will be preaching on John 4 and our next Woman of Faith – the Samaritan woman at the well. As usual, there will be a special craft activity for the children.

Elmsfest - 2 September
Elmfest is the Elmswell autumn fair at The Blackbourne on Saturday 2 September between 12:00 and 17:00. Please come along to support this community event. If you are available to help at the Christians Together In Elmswell stall, please let the Rector know. We need help transporting tables etc, setting up/clearing away, and people available during the day. We aim to have some children’s games, flyers and a Sunday School display, a prayer tree and a prayer tent for anyone who wishes to receive prayer. Also if you are able to make a cake for the wider event, these can be taken to the Blackbourne between 10:00 and 12:00. All proceeds go to local charities.

Back to Church Sunday - 10 September
The service on Sunday 10 September will be a special guest service, tailored for those who are either new to church or who haven’t been to church in a long while. It will include a talk explaining God's offer of forgiveness and reconciliation and a testimony. Please pray and think about who can invite along to encounter our amazing God.

Ride & Stride - 9 September
I am taking part in the Ride & Stride event on 9 September to raise money for Suffolk Historic Churches Trust. If you would like to support me, the sponsor form will be at the back of church in Sunday or you can donate online here. Thank you to everybody who has volunteered to welcome visitors at the church during the day. If you are able to help, please sign up on the rota at the back of church.

Confirmation - 22 October
On 22nd October 2023 at 3:00pm, there is a Confirmation Service for our deanery at Lavenham. If you would like to know more about getting confirmed, then please have a word with the Rector.
