St John's News - 2 November

Dear friends,

Yesterday was All Saints Day and I would like to start by sharing a lovely prayer I came across:

Heavenly Father,
you have enriched us with such a wonderful universal church.
We have so many faithful examples to draw from,
and so many stories of faith and trust in you.
I lift up the universal church to you now.
May the stories of those from the past be able to encourage us,
and may we be able to shine your light,
so that future generations may look back on our example
and feel the same trust and conviction that we do. Amen.

Thank you to everybody who helped make last Saturday's Variety & Spice such an enjoyable evening of entertainment. Not only did we raise some funds, but a number of local people came into the building for the first time and were full of compliments.

As we head into this season of Remembrance, poppies are available at the back of church, along with a donations container. There is also the little Garden of Remembrance by the church entrance to place wooden crosses. Thank you to those who are decorating the church.

A Time to Remember and a Time to Give Thanks is on Saturday at 3:00pm. This short service to remember the passing of loved ones and honour their memory will consists of readings, three hymns, a short reflection, the reading out of the names of those we are remembering, and the lighting of candles. The service will be followed by some refreshments.

We also remember our friend Anne Dyball this week, whose funeral will take place this Friday at 1:00pm at St John's.

This coming Sunday: Please do support our seven candidates at the Confirmation Service at 3:00pm.
There will also be a short service of Holy Communion at 9:00am and the main service at 10:30am is our monthly all age celebration. If you missed last Sunday’s service, you can watch it here.

The new defibrillator will soon be installed in the church porch (you may already have noticed the cabinet). If you would like to receive training in how to use it, please let Peter or Mike Brown know.

Finally, the weekly church prayer meeting is on Zoom on Saturday at 9:00am for 40 minutes. To join, click https://us04web.zoom.us/j/6852951296 or, load Zoom and use Meeting ID: 685 295 1296 and Password: 816262.

In Christ,

Peter
