St John's - 22 March 2022

Dear friends,

It was lovely to catch up with Margaret Rugira from OMF on Sunday and hear about her work in Japan, as well as hear her preach on Luke 18:1-8. Thank you to everybody who contributed to the enjoyable Bring and Share Lunch afterwards. In case you missed the service, you can watch it here.

The service this coming week is Holy Communion at 10:30am. Although it is Mothering Sunday, we are not doing a special all age service with posies, as in the past. Our Sunday School will meet at 9:30am over Zoom as usual.

And finally,
We thought you might like to see this moving and thought-provoking poem, written by a young friend of the Langstons called Becky Wilkes, together with some other young adults from St Oswald's, Croxley green.

WHY IN WAR NOBODY WINS

I am a mother fleeing Ukraine;
My sons have already left on a train
I wanted to join them but they won't let me in
That's why in war I don't win

I am a Russian who didn't subscribe;
Now I'm rejected by all of my tribe
I'm not seen for me but my country's sin
That's why in war I don't win

I am a fighter who stayed here to stand
But if we succeed it's broken our land
We fear each siren, each whistle, each pin
That's why in war I don't win

I am a child who's got no one left
The traumas I've seem have left me bereft
I am the future but the future looks dim
That's why in war I don't win

I am a dictator whose greed and who's pride
Has made me do horrors as for power I've vied
I can occupy but will never be kin
That's why in war I don't win

I am a Westerner trying to send aid
Nuclear weapons make me afraid
I can't believe the world that we're in
We all lose when striving to win

(Becky Wilkes & the Companions)

With every blessing,

Peter
