News from the Pews - 30 November

Dear friends,

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1 vs 5.

Our celebration of Advent started on Sunday with the lighting of the first Advent Candle. We are now looking forward to the coming into the world of the true light that gives light to all. As we worry about all that goes on in this dark age, let's redirect our gaze once more to Jesus, our hope and the light of the world. In case you missed Sunday's service, you can watch the service here.

Thank you for all who helped at last Saturday's Christmas Coffee and Cakes morning. It was an enjoyable occasion and, together with additional cake sales on Sunday morning and throughout the year by Janet Baker, raised about £550.

Please remember the Begg and Handyside families in your prayers. The funeral of David Begg takes place at St John's on Monday 6 December at 11:00am and David Handyside's funeral is also at St John's on Wednesday 15 December at 1:00pm.

The main service this Sunday is our family service at 10:30am, which Brenda Webb will be leading. There will also be a short, spoken, service of communion at 9:00am.

The church prayer meeting is on Zoom on Saturday at 9:00am for 40 minutes. To join, click here or, load Zoom and use Meeting ID: 685 295 1296 and Password: 816262.

Finally, we have plenty of flyers at church for our Christmas services (see below). Please do take a bundle and give away to friends or post in your neighbours letterboxes. We have good news to share this Christmas!

With every blessing in Christ,

Peter Goodridge
