St John's News - 2 November

Dear friends,

"You light a lamp for me. The Lord, my God, lights up my darkness." (Psalm 18:28)

The funeral for little Harry Crick, who died at the very young age of 2, takes place on Thursday at St John's. It will be a very emotional day, so please remember and pray for the family at this time.

Lord God, during the darkest hour you can bring hope and healing. We pray that for the parents who have lost their little boy, Harry. Please shine your light as we honour and remember this precious child. Please remove any fog from our minds and heart and help us to trust that you are still good, sovereign, and that you care. You bring hope to troubled hearts. Please cast out any of our fears or worries. Amen.

A Time to Remember and a Time to Give Thanks
This Saturday, 6 November, at 3:00pm, you are invited to a short service called "A Time to Remember and a Time to Give Thanks" at St John's, where we remember the passing of loved ones and honour their memory. The service consists of readings, three hymns, a short reflection, the reading out of the names of those we are remembering and the lighting of candles. The service will be followed by some refreshments.

And finally,
A prayer for the COP26 climate summit:

Heavenly Father, thank you for your beautiful creation that you have entrusted us with. We're sorry we have not cared for your world in the way you intended us to. We pray for all world leaders during COP26, asking that you grant them wisdom as they work to lay out concrete plans to tackle climate change. We pray that the decisions made during COP26 will not be empty words.

Lord God, our hearts break at the devastating impact the climate crisis is already having on those living in extreme poverty. We pray that this injustice will not be ignored, that more will be done to protect those left vulnerable.

Father, we ask you to stir our own hearts into action. Inspire us with ways we can make a difference in our homes, communities and the world around us. We pray for your prompting where we can do more to love our neighbour. Amen.

In Christ,

Peter
